Pro to Know: Ricky Wilson

By Allison Cea

Ricky Wilson has been helping women go from ordinary to extraordinary for years, so it’s no wonder he works with cutting edge couture cosmetics brand Dior. The label was savvy enough to scoop him up in 2004, and he’s been making up famous faces ever since. Ricky’s list of clientele reads like a who’s who in the industry, including celebrities, socialites, and models. Modelinia favorites Harley Viera Newton and Coco Rocha are just a few of the girls lucky enough to have been made up by him. Always in demand during awards season, Ricky has created countless red-carpet looks for his clients making appearances at the Academy Awards, Grammys, and New York Independent Spirit Awards. He gets his inspiration from the streets of New York City and from working Fashion Week in both New York and L.A. Ricky has applied his expertise behind the scenes at MTV, Full Frontal Fashion, and VogueTV, and his work has been featured in the pages of top magazines like Allure, Teen Vogue, Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, Lucky, and Elle, to name just a few.

Ricky has always been amazed by how adding just a little blush and lipstick can transform a woman’s look and spirits. As a makeup artist, he loves to share this fascination as he teaches women to enhance their own style and experiment with colors and trends. Here are Ricky’s top picks to make this season’s trends a hit.

While Ricky names DiorShow Mascara and Make Up For Ever HD Microperfecting Primer among his favorite products, this season he’s obsessed with Dior’s 1-Colour High Impact Eyeshadow single eyeshadows in Ultra Violet, Flash Black, and Chrome. These shades are perfect for the “simple but impactful” look that is Ricky’s signature.

“For Fall, it’s okay to have both strong eyes and lips,” says Ricky. To do a gray smoky eye, use violet eyeliners and navy mascara instead of black to keep the look a little softer. And for lips, keep them well-defined with a soft pink or berry tone. But bear in mind Ricky’s rule: “Always apply your lipstick first to prevent the lip liner from looking too strong.”

For those of us looking for a one product pick-me-up, Ricky recommends Dior’s Liquid Eyeliner in Plum. “It is so beautiful and was widely used at many of the Fall shows. It gives the eyes a sparkle that traditional black doesn’t,” says Ricky.

Thanks for the tips, Ricky! We are so looking forward to fall!
