Julia Stegner is the face of Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Literally. The supermodel is featured in the new Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG key visual, which features Julia in a specially designed futuristic style ensemble by Gareth Pugh. Photographed by legendary photographer Nick Knight, the visual will be a centerpiece at the Tents in Bryant Park this season. Lisa Holladay, manager of brand experience marketing at Mercedes-Benz USA, was excited about the photographer’s approach. “Nick Knight has a unique signature style for capturing images that convey a specific story,” says Lisa. “He took an innovative approach to portraying the cutting-edge iconic design of the exclusive SLS AMG within a fashion context. It’s a powerful way to communicate Mercedes-Benz relationship with fashion week.”
Cars may be for boys, but through Gareth Pugh’s designs paired with Julia’s striking beauty, Nick has proven that Mercedes-Benz appeals to all. Modelinia caught up with Julia to find out what it was like to work with Nick and to get her tips on getting a fake face lift.
What was the shoot like?
It was a lot of fun. I have always wanted to work with Nick Knight, so I was super happy to hear that he was going to shoot it. It was a great team and it’s fun to work for an automobile brand that does not hold back from making a huge fashion statement. Gareth Pugh’s clothes are so unique and amazing.
What was the hair and make-up look? Were any special products used to get the desired effect?
Sam McKnight put my hair up in a ponytail with bits and pieces coming out of the Gareth Pugh head piece that was designed for the shoot. For the make-up, Val Garland did use a secret ticket to make me look a bit more cat eyed. She stuck see through tape on to each side of my eyes and attached it to two rubber bangs that were knotted together on the back of my head. Quite the trick to get a fake lift! :)
Anything else unique or memorable from the shoot?
It is such a pleasure for me to work with Mercedes Benz and having such a great team to shoot the key visual made the experience even more fun!
