Secret Address: Selita Ebanks' Cayman Islands

By Bianca Posterli

Between its pristine beaches, eccentric nightlife, and delicious cuisine, the Cayman Islands is really a must-stop vacation spot. Lucky Selita Ebanks was not only raised in the British overseas territory of the Caribbean, but often returns to visit her extended family. If you’re looking for adventure, head down in November during Pirates Week to dress up like Blackbeard or a wench, or simply relax in the crystal clear waters. But whenever you go, here are some spots Selita highly recommends.

STAY

The Ritz-Carlton
When visiting her homeland, Selita doesn’t mess around. She makes sure to stay at the best place in town to get properly pampered. “The service is always prompt and they always remember me! I especially love the spa. If you ever want a fantastic facial, see Shirley!”

EAT

Lobster Pot
Cayman is well-known for its conch in all forms, and the Lobster Pot serves up some of the tastiest dishes. Traditionally healthy yet hearty, visit Selita’s favorite eatery for lunch or dinner. “The fresh tropical fruit punch is a must.”

Grand Cayman

Morgan’s Harbor
“Another cool spot is Morgan’s Harbor on the water in West Bay. The cheeseburger is the best ever! At night, it’s very romantic and the warm salty breeze is divine.”
Botabano Road
West Bay

FARMERS MARKETS

With all the small markets and side eateries that populate the island, make sure to pick up a healthy, refreshing snack if you happen to pass one. “The best little market would have to be Willies Fruit Stand. It’s the best! They have all the local fruits and homemade traditional desserts. You can get cool, fresh coconut water or a fresh papaya smoothie. Healthy and delicious!”

NIGHTLIFE

Next Level Nightclub
Who wouldn’t want to spend an evening on the beach sipping on a cocktail or dancing the night away with friends? Of course, Selita knows just the place. “If you want to party, go to Next Level Nightclub. You can party late except on Saturday’s—midnight is the cutoff time. And don’t forget to try anything with Tortuga Rum.”
426 West Bay Rd
Grand Cayman

Royal Palms Beach Bar/Reef Grill
Completely rebuilt after falling prey to 2004’s Hurricane Ivan, this restaurant boasts a nightclub popular with natives and tourists alike. “Soca nights are the best! Live music on a beach… Nothing beats that!”
537 West Bay Rd
Grand Cayman

TAKE HOME

Tortuga Rum Cake
You can order the world-famous treat online, but the only actual store you can get it at is in the Cayman Islands. Make sure to pick up a few to bring home to your friends and family! Selita gives her approval: “It’s delicious!”
Tortuga Rum Avenue
Industrial Park
Georgetown, Grand Cayman

Cayman Sea Salt
The salt from this locale is used in luxury baths and is also used in gourmet meals to finish off dishes with the perfect taste. “It’s quite popular in the culinary world.” Take some home as a souvenir and treat your foodie friends!

But Selita has one more piece of advice for all visitors to take heed: “Whatever you do, remember we drive on the left!”
