If our eyes are the window to our soul, then our eyebrows are certainly the window dressing! Beautifully shaped and groomed eyebrows create a frame for the face and bring our expressions to life. But with so many tools and just as many rules about thickness, length, and color floating out there, it can be hard to figure out exactly how yours are supposed to look like and which method is best.
Model turned makeup artist Christi Harris decided to develop a kit that would easily answer all the questions women have about creating and grooming the perfect brow. “It’s really about remembering three key steps: design, define, and diffuse,” says the beauty expert. Christi also says that you shouldn’t believe everything you hear. “The myth that hair will reappear darker or thicker after surface removal? That’s not true. Actually, it’s physiologically impossible!” What happens, she says, is that surface removal results in hair emerging with a blunt tip, which may cause the hair to feel thicker to the touch, but actually isn’t. In fact, those blunt-tipped hairs are easier to remove.
Christi designed her Precision Brow Planing System with all of this in mind. Instead of using wax or tweezers, the kit features a planer and has all the tools you need to naturally fill and contour your brows at home. “Pulling hair out from the root can cause skin irritation as well as follicle damage, ” says Christi. “And one wrong pluck and the hair is gone forever.” The planer safely, effectively, and uniformly shapes brows—without any pain.
To create the perfect brow, Christi says you have to find your map. “Everyone has a different map, and you have to know how to find yours.” Find the start of your brow by lining up a pencil at the end of your mouth, then touching it to the end of your nose, then to the start of your eye. That’s where your brow should start. Next find your peak. Take the eye pencil and start at the end of your nose and line it up to the point above your iris. To find where your tail should end, start at your nose again and line up the end of your eye with the pencil. Add color or Christi’s Adda Brow eye filler to spots that have become thinned out from overtweezing. Next define with the planer—gently stroke the tool above the brow just to the natural brow line. Use the same technique along the brow tail and then diffuse with a refiner brush and diffusing powder.
