Quantcast

24/7 to Twenty8Twelve

And now, a note from our Fashion Correspondent at London Fashion Week, Camilla Morton:

It seems a long time since we spoke – but in reality, it is only 24 hours.  But that is a long time during Fashion Week.  Yesterday (Monday) was the week’s busiest day and the early morning start – and the chaos that came with filing and getting to a show by 9 AM-  meant I neglected to tell you about Sienna and Savannah Millers’ debut Sunday night.

You might have been thinking about the Oscars, but London was all about the new Miller sisters to stir up the social scene.

When Savannah graduated from St. Martins, her sister and boyfriend came along to watch the show.  Only thing was, her sister happened to be actress Sienna Miller and the boyfriend was Jude Law.   The whole celebrity obsession took over.  In England, Sienna became a style icon and even a down day was greeted as a massive new boho trend.  Savannah, not one to crave the limelight, went off to the country.  She got married, had babies, and lived in a lovely fairylike world.

But blood is thicker than water, and clearly, just as the great Yves Saint Laurent said, ‘Fashion fades, style is eternal’.  So both loving clothes, fashion, and one a gifted designer, the girls decided to join forces.  With the backing of Pepe jeans (of which Sienna is their face) and their style status, (meaning Sienna is chased by paps even if only off to buy a pint of milk,) they decided to show they could design as much as wear the clothes.

The scheduled 9 PM start was much nearer 10 but it gave you ample time to people-watch their beautiful friends in the drinks tent, erected out in the cold.  Hairstylist and friend James Brown was there, Phillippa Holland, the beautiful London fairy jewellery designer, plus mum, step-mum, Kelly Hoppen, and hairstylist Nicky Clarke.

But actually, it was the clothes people had come to see.

Taking inspiration from their own style: skinny jeans, tux jackets, mini trenches, and diamante shot knitwear, it’s no wonder their label is already a best seller.  The backless emerald green shimmering mini will no doubt be seen on a red carpet soon – perhaps even on said designer herself.   Must be a perk of the job to get first dibs? I would have mused this further, but the need for a burger was greater.  My friend Posh Nats and I headed off at speed to The Wolseley – and one of the few kitchens still open - we practically inhaled our hamburger and fries, nearly oblivious to Bill Nighy and Eddie Izzard sat on the table next to us.  Nearly I said – there is hunger and then there is curiosity… which is why a label that combines celebrity spotting and style can’t fail…
