Speculation about the cover of Vogue’s May issue celebrating the annual Costume Institute gala, which this year is titled, “Model as Muse”, has been underway for a long time. While the questions of who is going with whom, and just which models will be in attendance, are still in question, one thing is certain: It will be huge. The Met has already created a coffee table book to celebrate the occasion, titled The Model as Muse: Embodying Fashion by Harold Koda the Curator in Charge at The Costume Institute at The Metropolitan Museum of Art. It’s still in pre-order, but it promises to explore the relationship between fashion and the models who’ve graced the pages of magazines and walked the runway, from the early 20th century to today.
