After decorating the runways in New York and London in the name of charitable fundraising, Naomi Campbell brought her Fashion for Relief extravaganza to Cannes on Monday night! As part of the annual film festival, Naomi invited a select group of models and celebrities to walk down her memorable catwalk, thanks to participation from Vogue Italia, Franca Sozzani, and design houses including Yves Saint Laurent, Marchesa, and Alexander McQueen.
With the request from the supermodel, Lindsey Wixson, Sessilee Lopez, Noémie Lenoir, Karolina Kurkova, and Yasmin Le Bon each donated their time and runway walks in order to entertain the crowd with their iconic struts. But while previous iterations of her runway have benefitted victims of Haiti and Katrina, the Cannes version was in support of the tragedies in Japan. ”The destruction caused by the earthquake is completely heartbreaking, it’s so hard to even begin to comprehend the tragic loss the people of Japan are coping with,” Naomi said. ”I felt very passionate to try and help in whatever way possible, to do our part and to support Japan at this time. I hope that the money raised from Fashion For Relief in Cannes will support those who need it most.”
For one night only, the Forville Market played host to Naomi’s models and celebrities, raising both funds and awareness for those in need. After the super opened the show, she was followed by brilliant selection of models - and huge rounds of applause from the crowds. Karolina brought her powerful walk, Lindsey showed why she’s a true model on the (meteoric) rise, and Noémie returned to the runway. Truly a collaboration of efforts that only Naomi could accomplish.
Though the official show was counted as the runway moments provided by Naomi’s models, we’re enamored by the pictures taken behind the scenes. New York’s Fashion for Relief was a veritable supermodel spotting thanks to walks from Natasha Poly, Sasha Pivovarova, Helena Christensen, and Angela Lindvall to name just a few, providing a throwback to the powerful days of Fashion Week when the supers were regulars on the runways. And Naomi’s latest iteration of Fashion for Relief seemed no different. Karolina and Noémie reunited backstage like old friends who hadn’t seen each other in ages, making it clear that the charitable function was seen as a pleasure to experience.
And PS, can we just talk about Karolina in those pants?! Amaze.
