Proenza Schouler, right up there with Alexander Wang and Rag & Bone, is one of the most cutting-edge shows in fashion with an invite list that only accommodates those deserving of a front row seat. Naturally, a collection with this much notoriety and distinction, only pulls together a top of the line show list. Karolina Kurkova, Ruby Aldridge, Daria Strokous, and Hanne Gaby Odiele all walked designers Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez’s show yesterday. With time before the show to head backstage, we caught up with a few of the girls to discuss their thoughts on the collection and what it’s like to walk in a show with such high acclamation.
Ruby Aldridge was a big fan of her tiger print shorts-suit and cat-eye sunglasses; and even though she was running on empty, walking in Proenza Schouler gave her that extra bit of energy to finish off the day with a bang. Cruising around the backstage area we stumbled upon Meghan Collism, a newer face to Proenza Schouler and Fashion Week. “This is the only show I’m doing all season so it’s a huge honor to be here,” the edgy, dark-haired Canadian model said. “I like the runway, but I prefer more behind the scenes settings.” An interesting factoid that we also heard earlier this Fashion Week from Julia Stegner.
The collection featured incredible details like eel skins, tropical prints and heavily structured individual pieces with accessories like metallic handbags and architectural wedges tying the looks together. While there were fewer colors and patterns mixed together this season, the bursts of bright yellowy greens and pops of burnt orange were certainly enough to keep the collection from feeling dark and dreary. Never falling far from genius, Jack McCullough and Lazaro Hernandez’s latest collection is hands down one of the best shows we’ve seen yet; not that we’re at all surprised.
