Very few things will get us into a science-fiction movie or even one full of war scenes. One of those few circumstances will be thanks to Amber Valletta, as she’s starring in Gamer, which opens September 4, alongside Gerard Butler, who plays her husband and one of the death row prisoners whose life is put in the hands of those playing a game.
This isn’t the first foray into film for Amber. She’s also had roles in Hitch and What Lies Beneath, and will appear in The Spy Next Door in 2010.
But acting isn’t the only role that Amber plays. In addition to being a mom and model, she’s also turning into a fashion designer as well, for Michelle Wenke and Megan George’s line Monrow. Her pieces range from perfect T-shirts to blazers to day dresses at moderate prices. “I didn’t just sign off on them, I went in and designed them,” she said, explaining her involvement in the process. “I think things had to come down, regardless of the recession, [yet items] should not be dispensable so people throw them out. But that’s just my modus operandi anyway, I’m not looking to be the thing of the moment. I want to do things that don’t have a short shelf life.”
So, role one: model. Role two: actress. Role three: mom and wife. However, role part four is that of humanitarian. Supermodels Stepping Out Against Hunger launched in 1995 to aid the Tulsa Community Food Bank, but since then she’s been involved with Will.i.am from the Black Eyed Pea’s Yes We Can video campaign for Obama, and donates her time to Oceana. “My goal is to use not even the power of who I am [in terms of fame] but who I am as a human being,” she says of her next act. “I’m trying to figure out how to do that, how to balance those things without leaving everything, running off and living on a farm in some remote location!”
