During Fashion Week, it’s easy to stress out and become slightly overwhelmed with the massive amounts of shows and events to attend. Allow casting director Angus Munro to remind you of the joys of Fashion Week, as Modelinia recently asked him a few quick questions.
What does Fashion Week mean to you?
One hundred and fifty mini heart attacks. No seriously, it’s what keeps me going. I physically miss the shows during the off-season. There is something about the immediacy of the shows that you just don’t get working on editorial and advertising.
Which girls are influencing the fashion work the most right now?
I think that we are seeing a shift back to more healthy, more traditionally beautiful girls. As is often the case during an economic downturn, we look for aspirational characters to attach ourselves to and, to a certain extent, this is happening in fashion. I think newer girls like Kendra Spears and Jac blend supreme beauty with a girl-next-door attainability. I think that the really great new girls have something extra, something that transcends their beauty and personality and it is that that I always start each season hoping to find. I feel that we are getting back to the feeling of the early ’90s when models had to tick all the boxes to guarantee success. This is something I am really relieved about as there has been too much of the one or two season wonders…almost a “disposable” model ethic which is not healthy for the girls or the industry as a whole.
