And now, a note from our Fashion Correspondent at London Fashion Week, Camilla Morton:
At Aquascutum, London Fashion Week got serious. Held at the Saatchi Gallery, it bought together a collection of leading artists in the fashion industry:
Styling: Edward Enniful
Casting: James Noel
Shoes: Manolo Blahnik
Hair: Samantha Hillerby
Make Up: Pat McGrath
Inspirational Program Image: Eartha Kitt in Aquascutum trench, 1955
Opening: Stella Tennant
Clothes were layered, romantic, and rich with lace and furs, rouched macs, new romantic Adam Ant-style blouses. It had the mix of eccentric and English. It took Aquascutum to a new level but what stood out? The casting, the women and the faces.
Like a Vermeer, cheeks were brushed with a soft light iridescence by Ms. McGrath that made them glow with ethereal radiance. Girls looked near mythical, yet modern – while it was the women who stole the show, and looked like goddesses. Yes, there were goddesses on the runway yesterday – Yasmin Le Bon, Alek Wek, Jane Howard, Susie Bick. Names that might not walk the runway everyday, but when they do they were in a different league to the Bambis that followed. Supermodels are Super League for a reason.
