Nonie Creme, creator of the Butter London nail polish line, had her work cut out for her when Lisa Mayock and Sophie Buhai told her their Spring 2010 collection for Vena Cava was inspired by photos of African tribeswomen and eccentric upper-crust Manhattanites.
“We wanted to do something fun and still incorporate their original inspiration,” said Nonie backstage at Milk Studios.
Little did she know that inspiration would strike in the form of a flyer from Staples.
“I get this call and Lisa says, ‘I got it,’ and then comes this deep blue flyer for discounted paper clips.”
The unique hue of blue that goes by the name of Corporate Blue isn’t sold in stores, but Nonie let Modelinia in on how to make the color at home: Mix half a bottle of Butter London’s Artful Dodger with half a bottle of Royal Navy.
