Fashion Week officially kicked off this morning at Bryant Park, and fashion insiders trudged through the snow and slush to make their first appearance at the Tents. Modelinia headed backstage at BCBG Max Azria, where models took up their posts in hair and makeup. Within seconds we were right in front of Abbey Lee Kershaw, who looked so warm and cozy, we had to know her secret. “I’ve got a big chunky pair of Dr. Martens that I’m wearing right now, but other than that, a big jacket and then you can wear whatever you want underneath.” Tricks from the models never fail, people.
Front row, a newly engaged Maggie Rizer showed off new red locks, which contrasted perfectly with her bright yellow jacket. “I’ve changed my hair back and forth since I was 17,” she said of her decision. “I get a little bored and during the winter I was a white blonde, so it’s a change. It’s better for clothes.” As for her upcoming nuptials, it’s organization-central for Maggie. “I’ve been working nonstop on wedding plans, but I think after being engaged for only a month, I think the plans are just about done!”
Once the show began, a collection full of neutral colors, geometric shapes, and color blocking appeared on the runway. Anastasia Kuznetsova not only opened the show, but closed it as well, leading a major group of Russell Marsh-approved models, including fresh faces like Lisanne De Jong, Shu Pei Qin, and Patricia van der Vliet, as well as seasoned pros like Abbey and Sigrid Agren. ~ Bianca Posterli
