People don’t really understand the hardships that accompany a career in modeling. Sure there’s the glamour of traveling the world, wearing designs that no one has worn before and many will never wear, along with becoming BFFs with designers.
But during Fashion Week, the hectic schedules mean no sleep, constant running back and forth to fittings or shows, hundreds of makeup applications, and a constant barrage of fans, photographers, and jam-packed backstage areas.
So at Jill Stuart’s Spring 2010 show at the New York Public Library we realized there is yet another difficulty models face that most don’t take into account. The lights in the Tents are bright, yes, but not overwhelming. The same cannot be said for the Library. Basically it’s like staring at the sun. But each and every girl took their respective place on the extraordinarily long runway and showed off the designs without squinting or looking away—an extreme achievement in our eyes.
Modelinia saw more than a few showgoers throw on their shades or shield their eyes while walking toward the light, so don’t even say it’s not an impossible task.
