Today’s couture moments come from Jean Paul Gaultier, Elie Saab, and Valentino.
It was a Hollywood glamour theme on the runway at JPG, and if you missed out on all of the references, the finale really pointed it out. Iconic leading-ladies’ faces were projected onto the face of the bride at the end. Models including Sasha Pivovarova, Erin O’Connor, Tanya D, Lakshmi Menon, Alana Zimmer, Georgina Stojilkovic, and Karlie Kloss channeled iconic actresses like Lana Turner, Greta Garbo, Rita Hayworth, Catherine Deneuve, Joan Crawford, and Claudette Colbert.
Apparently the heat was so overwhelming at Gaultier that even the designer indulged in an ice cream bar, which were handed out to guests to cope with the stifling weather.
When it came to Elie Saab, it was really an Anna Selezneva moment. She not only opened the show, but had a total of three turns down the couture runway? We can smell a designer love affair! But it’s not an exclusive, as she also walked in Valentino! What a great day for Anna.
And finally, Valentino. Joining Anna was Snejana Onopka, Edita Vilkeviciute, Toni Garrn, Nimue Smit, and Hanne Gaby Odiele to name a few at the Couvent des Cordeliers in Paris—and short is clearly in for this season. Red was missing on the runway, and while Elie Saab went all white, Valentino designers Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Piccioli chose all black and worked with Philip Treacy on the veils.
If we’ve learned anything, this fall we really need a mask, feathers, lace, and anything sheer.
