To put it simply, Naomi Campbell is a presence. From the way she carries herself to the feeling she gives off, it’s impossible not to notice the captivating hold this supermodel has on the world.
In order to take advantage of her enthralling personality, Nick Knight - who is always one to stretch the boundaries of creativity - decided to play around with the supermodel’s image, and formed a 25-foot, 3D interactive sculpture of the supermodel! Her likeness stood as the centerpiece of the ShowStudio exhibition, Fashion Revolution at London’s Somerset House, as not only an art instillation in itself, but also an interactive piece called Statuesque. The audience was asked to add to Nick’s instillation by decorating Naomi with faux graffiti, as a way to express global communication. To pair with the visual aspect, microphones were placed around Naomi’s image and taped audio responses to fully round out the experience in a written, visual, and audio aspect.
What resulted from the three month run is three hours of video footage combined into a ten minute video - spanning the vast types of graffiti that exhibit goers decided to create on the supermodel. Despite the variety of words, images, and symbols that decorate Naomi’s statuesque presence.
