There’s already a lot to love about the winter months— the first snow day, the festive holiday season, Valentine’s Day with a special admirer— and thanks to Paris Vogue, we now have one more thing to add to the list: invitée d’honneur, Carla Bruni Sarkozy!
Appearing on the cover of standout December/January double issue, the former supermodel and First Lady of France, was called upon to guest edit this year’s holiday issue, which includes a four-page interview with the tastemaker, as well as an exclusive look at a few of her favorite photo shoots with iconic models like Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell. And while Carla certainly has us captivated by her jaw-dropping collection of candid snapshots posed with designers like Gianni Versace and John Galliano— not to mention the supreme editorials featuring fellow supermodels Yasmin Le Bon, Helena Christensen and Christy Turlington— it was the Italian beauty’s taste in art that excited us the most.
Among the photos of her expansive film noir poster collection, Carla paid tribute to fashion photographer Gilles Bensimon’s latest photography series, Watercolours, which proved to be her crowning moment as editor. The new series— one photo of which is given a full page in Carla’s double issue— features over 20 breathtaking images of flowers that have been submerged under water, creating vivid blossoms of color under the water’s distorting effects. While many great artists have cited flowers in their work, Bensimon’s first fine arts collection— which he has been crafting for the past two years— presents an unique mix of miraculous color palettes, swift movements and natural beauty, giving way to a whole new perspective on abstract representation. And while we’re more accustomed to swooning over the photographer’s memorable fashion editorials featuring supermodels like Carla, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss, these blooming images are nothing short of astonishing!
A portrait from Watercolours, by Gilles Bensimon
As lifelong fans of Carla and Gilles Bensimon’s we were elated to see the two influencers come together so beautifully this season in the pages of one of our favorite glossies! Truly, we could think of nothing more relaxing than curling up by the fire with a cup of hot coco in one hand and our Paris Vogue in the other. Trés chic indeed!
And, if you’re lucky enough to be in London this month, don’t miss Gilles Bensimon’s Watercolours series currently on limited display at Tim Jefferies’ Hamilton Gallery.
