Yesterday former supermodel turned France’s First Lady, Carla Bruni, gave birth to a baby girl with President Nicolas Sarkozy. While both Carla and President Sarkozy each already have their own children (Carla has a 10-year-old son, Aurelien, with philosopher Rafael Enthoven) this is the first for the happy couple as well as the first child born to a ruling French leader since Napoleon!
Unlike in the United States where the press makes it their business to see the newborn right away, France seems to respect the private family affair. As a result, we have yet to know the baby girl’s name and both Carla and President Sarkozy have announced that she will not be photographed. ”Being exposed to public life is a choice for an adult,” Carla stated pre-birth. “You don’t have a child to play to the gallery, and this role as wife of the head of state has put me even more on the defensive.”
Although we’d love to catch a glimpse of the baby girl, we appreciate the couple’s focus on keeping their personal lives private which is not an easy feat when you’re in the public eye. We send our sincere congratulations to the couple’s latest addition to their family! Félicitations!
