Cheryl Tiegs Shares Her Diet Secrets!

Cheryl Tiegs is one of those gorgeous supermodels who will look good at any age. From her three iconic Sports Illustrated Swimsuit covers to her recent appearance on The Celebrity Apprentice, this California beauty looks as good now as she did then. Is it all from good genes? Partly; but a significant portion of it is her knowledge and understanding of what to eat and when to eat it. And here’s the best part, her diet always includes a glass of wine. Now that’s our kind of girl! Check out our exclusive interview with Cheryl below:

Modelinia: Can you tell us a bit about what your diet is like?

Cheryl: My diet is all relative, and I’m really only strict about it for about 2-10 days each month. But it’s not about depriving yourself of the things you want, it’s about portions and knowing what you’re buying at the supermarket.

Modelinia: Interesting. So what are you buying at the supermarket?

Cheryl: I pretty much buy whatever I feel like eating but get the lowest fat option. So lets say I want some steak, I go out and get the leanest portion of red meat which is filet mignon. Everyone thinks they need to stay away from red meat, but as long as you’re buying filet mignon I really don’t see why you should! I love putting it on skewers with lots of vegetables - it just makes it that much more fun to eat.

Modelinia: What about weaknesses? Cravings?

Cheryl: Popcorn is my weakness. Air popped, a drizzle of olive oil and a dash of salt, yum! That is my treat, but only when I’m off my diet. The problem with popcorn is you feel it days later. It makes you bloated and swollen, so even though it doesn’t have a high fat content it still works against you when you’re trying to look your best.

Modelinia: Totally know what you mean. What about sweets though? Do you ever indulge in those?

Cheryl: I don’t eat sweets.

Modelinia: Ever?

Cheryl: Ever. When I was in my 20s I was used to have 3-4 desserts at a meal. But as I got older it started to catch up with me - if you know what I mean - and so I stopped eating them cold turkey. For six months I did not touch a single sweet and now I never want them.

Modelinia: So aside from popcorn, what do you indulge in?

Cheryl: Wine. I never cut wine out of my diet. That’s so boring. If I’m making a piece of fish with broccoli or chicken on a skewer with tomatoes and red peppers, I want to have a glass of wine with it, and I don’t think that’s bad.

Modelinia: Definitely not. Wine is a must in our books! So, any last tips or advice for those of us trying to drop a few before bikini season?

Cheryl: Bite the bullet. Be a big girl. Avoid the sweets for ten days - your glass of wine is your dessert at dinner. And everyone should have an off day.
