Citizen K Joins the Supermodel Trend

Heidi Klum’s Summer 2008 cover

It really is the year of the supermodel. And Citizen K is on the trend, as their latest is a Supermodel issue with Helena Christensen gracing the cover, revealing it all. We’re thinking this super high will continue. Just take a look at a few examples from the past year.

First was the Vogue Paris issue, which was dedicated to Lara Stone because Carine Roitfeld was that obsessed.

Next, Harper’s Bazaar chose to highlight the history of Peter Lindbergh in their April 2009 issue, showing a retrospective of his work with iconic models, including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell, Cindy Crawford, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Tatjana Patitz, and Milla Jovovich. Magdalena Frackowiak, Sessilee Lopez, Heidi Mount, Liu Wen, and Sigrid Agren were dubbed “Models of the Moment,” and other editorials starred Hilary Rhoda and Lily Donaldson.

Then the Met’s Costume Institute Gala celebrated “The Model as Muse” with, of course, the huge Vogue May 2009 issue honoring the “Faces of the Moment” and Steven Meisel. Liya Kebede, Natalia Vodianova, Anna Jagodzinska, Isabeli Fontana, Lara Stone, Jourdan Dunn, Raquel Zimmermann, Caroline Trentini, and Natasha Poly graced the cover, which opened into a monumental Model issue that included an amazing roundtable discussion from the models of yesterday and today, plus more and more models.

Following that, V Magazine dedicated their Swimsuit issue to supermodels with six different covers. The requirement was that each model had to be known by their first name only, so the magazine chose supers Kate (Moss), Claudia (Schiffer), Gisele (Bündchen), Daria (Werbowy), Naomi (Campbell), and Eva (Herzigova) to grace the cover with bright neon backgrounds. Which magazine is next?
