The fourth annual charity:ball changed many lives around the world last night when over $1 million was raised to provide water for those who have no access to a clean and safe supply. The Metropolitan Pavilion was buzzing with over 1,400 people all wanting to affect change and help others in need.

There was quite a guest list and several familiar faces walked the red carpet, including the host for the evening, Adrian Grenier, joined by Lauren Bush, Kyra Sedgwick, Gina Gershon, Richie Rich, and Nanette Lepore to name a few. Irina Shabayeva (my designer for Season 6 of Project Runway) made the gorgeous red gown I wore to be auctioned off, and many other sponsors donated everything from trips to jewelry and art for a silent auction. Attendees also could bid live to sponsor a well that provides drinking water for a whole city in developing nations. The incredible generosity inspired me, and last night charity:water broke a new record of one million people served!

After the live auction, guests danced to some amazing music, sipped on delicious cocktails, and even Tweeted about charity:water as the latest Twitter-feed was displayed on a large screen for all to see. Afterward many went to the Highline Ballroom for further festivities and fun. Walking around the space was really eye-opening as it was filled with haunting photos, statistics, and information. There was even a Waterwalk where guests could carry 80 pounds of water in two yellow fuel cans to see what women and children have to go through every day to get clean water.

I learned that every day over 4,500 children die of waterborne diseases and Scott Harrison, the founder of charity:water, and all of the volunteers, sponsors, and supporters help to cut this number each day. Last night was a huge step, and I cannot wait until the whole world has clean water. Be a part of the change, Modelinia fans, at www.charitywater.org. ~ Kalyn Hemphill
