Last night Haiti was on everyone’s mind. While some stayed at the Tents for Naomi Campbell’s Fashion for Relief event, others descended upon Opera Gallery in the Meatpacking District for the Hearts for Haiti charity function hosted by Elite Models and Coco Rocha. Coco, clad in a harlequin jumper (which she proudly admitted was found at a Michigan thrift store for $15) was all smiles as friends like Ali Stephens and Alessandra Ambrosio showed up with countless others to raise money for relief efforts.
The cornerstone of the event was a T-shirt sale and silent auction, where one of the items up for bid was a mural by Coco’s boyfriend. When asked about her involvement, the model was cheerful and sincere: “I think anyone with a heart would have responded to this.”
So what can model fans do to help? “The worst problem, especially in our industry, is that we’re always looking forward,” Coco said. “We don’t necessarily remember or continue to do things. So what I think we all need to do is stretch this out for a year—or two—whatever it needs to keep bringing money back. Whatever it may be, every day, just Twittering about it, telling people, ‘Buy this T-shirt!’ Do anything. Go to Haiti if you can! I just hope people continue. It just needs to keep going.” Well said. ~ Tim Mitchell
