Daria Gets Stoked

Though the weather’s been a little iffy recently (rain and scarves during May anyone?), Daria Werbowy and Stoked hosted Stoked on Spring at the Open House Gallery Saturday night. “To be honest, I was feeling really bad that I wasn’t doing anything and this is perfect timing,” Daria explained of her choice to become involved with the nonprofit. “I just got back from Wooster where I was boarding for two weeks, but it was the worst season ever! There was, like, no snow on the whole mountain.” She’s been an active snowboarder for years now, picking it up alongside her friends. “I started snowboarding when I was, like, 14 because on a snow day what else are you going to do? Go to the golf course? No, you’re going to go hang out with your friends.”

Guests milled about a table display of sushi to check out the 125 pieces of art on auction, bidding on their favorites to benefit the Stoked Mentoring program, which brings mentors and kids together through action sports.

In addition to playing host, Daria was brave and donated a piece of her own creation to the silent auction: a painting of a bird, titled Freebird. “That’s the first time I’ve ever put anything of mine in the public eye,” she said. “I wouldn’t call myself an artist, but I draw.” We would, Daria, we would.
