Derek Lam presented a collection of art deco prints and a mouthwatering color palette of watermelon reds, mustard yellows, and tangerine oranges yesterday at his spring 2012 show at Lincoln Center. Over the past few years Lam has formulated his place as one of the most respected designers of New York Fashion Week and continues to be the go-to designer for sophisticated, chic, women’s sportswear. Indeed, Lam is as reliable and loyal with his clothing as he is with his model show list. Just like last season, Daria Strokous, Fei Fei Sun, Alana Zimmer, Saskia de Brauw, Jourdan Dunn, Hanne Gaby Odiele, Arizona Muse, and Joan Smalls all walked his runway yesterday, further emphasizing the loyal relationship between the designer and his models.
While the collection was more shapeless and 60s inspired than we’ve seen in the past, the intricate patterns and color-blocking fit right in place with the other trends we’ve seen this season, making this yet another entirely wearable collection by Derek Lam.
