And now, a note from our Fashion Correspondent at London Fashion Week, Camilla Morton:
Fashion Week is all about finding stars, finding beauty, finding fashion - and at Erdem, I found all three. Staged at Somerset House, in a gallery overlooking the River Thames, I squidged into my seat, next to not one, not two, but three pregnant ladies. (One had 6 1/2 weeks to go, the other two, only 4 weeks.) But it wasn’t just the mothers to be in bloom. this show has to be my favourite of the week.
Under the direction of Fifi la Mer, a live musical quartet ‘Oh La La!’ provided a fittingly fruity French accompaniment to the satin puffs, printed silks, and overlaid laces ideal for the modern day style of ‘Sparrow’. Whether it was Edith Piaf or Marion Cotillard, the dresses floated past on promenade, like a sea of silk Seurats. From Toulouse-Lautrec to Gigi and ‘Thank heavens for little girls!,’ this is a new bloom to lift an autumn day. Pouff bustle skirts, pigment splashed silks, and puff sleeves in bold and joyful bouquets. Stained red lips and slinky evening gowns with shots of bright floral appliqué – why travel to Paris when Erdem has captured the ‘je ne sais quoi’ spirit here?
