Erin Wasson’s runway show felt slightly genie-esque, as fashion editors plopped down on “magic” carpets on the sixth floor of ABC Carpet & Home. Before the show even began, Ke$ha (arriving with Elle’s Joe Zee) and Jared Leto caused camera bulbs to snap and attendees to turn heads.
For her collection titled “Alabaster,” Erin sent her models, including fellow Maybelline face Emily DiDonato, down the runway with one bold eyebrow and an interesting lip design. For Emily, it was her very first show of the season…and given her sisterly bond to Erin, quite appropriate. As for the other girls, including Joan Smalls who opened and closed the show, Modelinia is officially obsessed with crimping. As with Alexander Wang’s side braid of Spring 2010, crimped is the look for Fall 2010.
“Every season it gets a little bit easier, just a little bit,” said Erin of her move into the design world. “This collection in particular is very white. I envisioned the girls coming down the runway in simple silhouettes and clean palettes, so the whole idea was to find an environment. I really loved the idea of Moroccan-covered carpets with all the textures and colors surrounding this Alabaster collection. I just like the girls to look cool with a little bit of intrigue—there’s a tiny bit of crimp in the hair, there’s one eyebrow, a weird lip. I want the girls to look beautiful, but a little off.”
Lakshmi Menon, Jacquelyn Jablonski, Liu Wen, Frida Gustavsson, and Eniko Mihalik showed off the model turned designer’s extremely white collection, which—true to Erin’s wish—paired well alongside the deep red rugs and soft white hues of the burning candles. A huge treat was the musical performance that Erin had for her guests. After last season’s Gang Gang Dance appearance, there were strong musical notes to fill, and so Erin decided on the scene group Yeasayer to provide the beat to her designs. The crowd was clearly loving it, jamming to her creations on their carpets, champers in hand. ~ Bianca Posterli
