Express Provides A Runway First

Despite their endless list of runway accomplishments, there was one interesting thread at yesterday’s Express show in the Flatiron District.

Most of the models, including Anne Vyalitsyna and Eniko Mihalik, had never walked a runway outside before! ”I really loved it because in my ten year career, I’ve never done a show outside!” said Anne after strutting down the catwalk in Express’ offerings for Spring 2011. “It’s so amazing that they do a show for the public. First of all it was on time, which never happens, and second of all it was next to the Flatiron building, which is my favorite in the whole city.”

Anne was joined on the runway by Jessica Hart, Erin Heatherton, and Eniko, who credited the crowd for the big smiles on the models walking the runway. “I’ve never done a show outside for the crowd. People were actually cheering which makes you smile on the runway, even if they say be dead serious.”

And cheer they did, as NYC’s Flatiron was overtaken by a crowd who paused on their evening commute home to check out the show. Though the wind was certainly blowing and the temperatures dipped into chilly, the models stepped out in spring attire that drew the public’s attention - including the closing moment - a skirt worn by Erin - that was a clear crowd favorite.

Post show, while chatting with Anne V, we ran into Sports Illustrated’s Darcie Baum who just happened upon the runway show, and proceeded to launch into a little power girl chat to talk about all things sexy and swimsuit, serving as a perfect culmination to the afternoon show. Though she’s been on the go and in Europe for quite some time, Anne let us know that she’s fitting in a little warm weather escape and heading to Turks and Caicos for work on Monday! On the city side of  things, Eniko told us that she’ll be going out for the Victoria’s Secret casting next week! Despite the fact that she already walked down the glittery runway, she still has those butterfly nerves. “It’s exciting and a little scary too!”
