Last season, we had the pleasure of naming Liu Wen one of New York Fashion Week’s Top 5 Catwalkers and by the looks of this season’s shows, we’d say the model is vying for a second title! The Fashion Week fixture has kept up momentum this week walking the runway for Proenza Schouler, Michael Kors, Rodarte and rag & bone to name just a few, all the while killing the street style scene. Since becoming the first Chinese model to strut her stuff on the Victoria’s Secret runway back in 2009, Liu has scored major campaigns with the likes of Calvin Klein, Dolce & Gabbana and Estee Lauder Beauty, making her one of the most in demand models the industry today. While hanging out backstage at last week’s rag & bone show, we had some time to catch up with Liu who was happy to talk fashion, music and model BFFs in between lipstick applications. See what the stunning international model had to say about all of that and more in our Fashion Week Confidential below!
How do you stay positive during Fashion Week?
People say I’m always smiling. During fashion week doing between four and five show a day, it can be very exhausting, but I like it and I try to smile and stay positive. I’ve learned so much and I’ve gotten to work with so many amazing people.
Do you have a good luck charm?
If I keep good energy I think I have good luck. Sometimes if I’m not happy, I just eat some chocolate and it makes me happy.
What is the one designer item you’ll never give away?
My Balenciaga leather jacket is my favorite! I love rag & bone jeans they are so comfortable and I love all the different colors. And I love my Alexander Wang bag, I will carry it forever.
Who are some of your model BFFs that you’re excited to see this FW?
I was excited to see Joan Smalls, but she’s not here today. I was with her a few days ago though. I also have a lot of Chinese friends here like Fei Fei, Sui he, and Shu Pei. Also Bette Franke.
What’s the most extreme beauty look you’ve ever had to model?
Well I usually don’t wear makeup, so when I do do shows even just some makeup I feel makes me look crazy.
Skyfall, by Adele!
