When Marc Jacobs changed the date of his show to the last day/show of Fashion Week we actually felt like it was the right move. Marc Jacobs is one of the most influential designers in the fashion industry and what better way to finish New York Fashion Week than with a designer whose creations sculpt the way clothes are designed year round?
Held at the Lexington Avenue Armory, Jacobs turned the giant space into a full-blown dance hall, complete with lights, curtains, a flashy dance routine, and obviously, a spectacular soundtrack. Alyona Subbotina opened and closed the show followed by an impressive line-up of models like Alana Zimmer, Emily Baker, Chantal Stafford-Abbott and the Marc Jacobs favorite, Ruby Aldridge.
The collection was understated yet flashy with a softer color palette (except for a few pops of greens, yellows, and blues here and there), 1920s inspired drop-waist dresses and metallic see-through cowboy boots. Sequins and gingham prints also dominated the runway, topped off with kerchiefs tied around the models’ heads, lots of fringe and just the right touch of shimmer.
Most celebrations end with a dance, and while there were plenty of after parties following the show, we were beyond content ending our week at a fashion show dance performed by models wearing Marc Jacobs. ~Sonia Evers
