Fashion's Night Out at Barneys

The seventh floor of Barneys on Madison Avenue had everyone channeling their inner rock star. A stage was set up, blow-up guitars distributed, and a photographer was on hand to create flip books capturing every scissor kick and Guitar Hero-perfected move.

Designer Alexander Wang grabbed models Natasha Poly, Magdalena Frackowiak, and Hanne Gaby Odiele, who were all sporting Fashion’s Night Out T-shirts and created their own flip books. The designer and his statuesque trio shimmied to the opposite side of the floor, replete with a masking tape-outlined runway and danced to “Walk It Out” before doing just that and making way for Coco Rocha, whose Modelinia music video was playing on a giant flat-screen and drew hordes of onlookers—including Coco’s mom, Juanita.

This is my favorite video that Coco has been in,” said Juanita, who also happens to be a striking redhead.

Even though Coco showed up with a serious entourage—her Irish folk-dance troop from Canada who would later perform with her at the DKNY party—crowds swarmed her for photo ops and to get the chance to create their own garage band-themed flip book with her. Mamma Rocha soaked it all up with her camera from the sidelines.

“This is fun! I’m becoming used to the crowds,” she said with a warm Canadian accent. “When we were in Korea, in an area that was a complete no-man’s-land, a group of very young school girls saw her and started screaming. They didn’t speak a word of English!” Ah, the making of a supermodel… ~ Alia Mansoori
