Most fashion shows start with daywear and end with evening wear - but Oscar de la Renta did just the opposite at his Spring 2012 runway show yesterday. Starting with a bang, Emily Baker took the runway in a mustard yellow silk-taffeta ball gown with black lace overlay. Chantal Stafford-Abbott immediately followed in an equally as voluptuous gown, only this time in a bright kelly green with a sleeveless black lace overlay.

Transitioning into shorter, more day-appropriate dresses toward the middle of his sixty-three look show, Oscar de la Renta featured sophisticated knee-length dresses perfect for anything from a lunch-date with friends to a cocktail party on the Upper East Side. With almost every model wearing three looks total, it was hard to keep track of who wore what, but we couldn’t possibly forget the tomato red, light-weight silk dress worn by Frida Gustavsson.

Moving back into full-length evening wear at the end of the show, we fell head-over-heels in love with the structured yellow floral gown topped off with a floral crown worn by Daphne Groeneveld. Although we don’t foresee any balls in our near future, we’ll most certainly be fantasizing about wearing any of the dresses from Oscar de la Renta’s spring 2012 collection. ~ Sonia Evers
