Makeup and retouching are all common parts of the creation of a magazine cover. But for the April 2009 issue of French Elle, the cover girls went without these techniques for a 16-page spread called “Stars Without Makeup.”
Just who was able to convince the girls to appear on the cover of a magazine without cosmetic aids? None other than Peter Lindbergh. He brought Eva Herzigova to the project, along with seven other women, including Monica Bellucci, Sophie Marceau, Inès de la Fressange, and Charlotte Rampling. The twist is that each cover girl did have her makeup done at the shoot, but it was removed with lotion right before any pictures were taken.
