Fashion’s Night Out on Madison Avenue varied by drastic proportions. While some locales like Gucci were calm and civilized, others like Dolce & Gabbana were total mob scenes.
Early on in the evening, Behati Prinsloo and her boyfriend Jamie Strachan took up residence at Fratelli Rossetti, as the model couple had teamed up with the brand to create an exhibition of photos for the shoe company’s latest collection. All along the perimeter of the room, images envisioned by Behati decorated the walls, bringing the shoes to life, but also the feeling of her photographic aesthetic. “It’s very much my style of shoes,” said Behati of the collection. Her excitement for the designs was only matched by her premiere exhibit moment. “I’ve never seen my pictures hanging up in a store! I felt like this day was never going to come, but I can’t stop looking at them, like, ‘Wow, we did a really great job!’”
After a quick hello to Behati’s BFF, Coco Rocha, who popped in before heading to see Zac Posen, we moved a block downtown to join the mad crush of fans and photographers waiting to see Heidi Klum unveil her latest collection for A Pea in the Pod at Destination Maternity. “I’m excited to see what we did months ago finally in stores,” said Heidi of her latest collection. “We do so much in the year and have design meetings for like 4-5 hours to go over everything. We spit out all these great ideas. It’s so nice to see it in stores finally!” While last season saw little flowers, it was a star feeling for the new pieces. “I painted thousands and thousands of stars, but then they computerized them. But I painted everything before – just to make it a little edgy.” Expectant mommies with growing bellies took over the store, munching on mini slices of pizza and California rolls, and sipping nonalcoholic champagne and gushing over the goodie bag - which included all of Heidi’s favorite pregnancy and motherhood must-have items. Once the supermodel designer arrived, it was a blur of camera flashes, and we took off for the madness that was a Dolce & Gabbana.

A line snaked all the way down Madison Avenue, since Dolce & Gabbana’s celebrated guest was nine other than Ms. Naomi Campbell. Precisely at 7:45, Naomi strode outside with her entourage of dancers, clad in leather bootie shorts, fishnet stockings, and the specially designed t-shirt that was for sale in honor of Naomi. A brief but astounding dance performance entertained the crowd outside, as Naomi danced about on the sidewalk to Jay-Z and Rihanna’s “Run This Town”. After her quick dance, Naomi took refuge inside the store again. We joined her on the exclusive third floor, where she was signing her t-shirts for fans and greeting friends who stopped by including Sessilee Lopez, Bethann Hardison, and Pat McGrath.
Before heading to Soho to enjoy our own party, we popped into Chloe, where Angela Lindvall was holding court. While a block down was pure craziness, Chloe was a welcome respite from the crowds, providing space, ample champagne, and a relaxed evening.
