Lily Cole is primed to become the next big movie star, so prepare to read lots of coverage on the model turned actress. Here’s one of what’s sure to be many pieces on Lily we’re currently devouring.
An angelic doll-face description begins each story of a girl discovered while shopping with friends, who is catapulted into the modeling world by Storm agency. In a short period of time, that girl is named British Model of the Year, opening and closing couture shows, and working with Steven Meisel. From there, Lily turns her attention to acting, working on St. Trinians, then landing the role of Valentina in The Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus, a brilliant and haunting film expected to become a launching point for Lily’s career.
The plot line changes to her normal life, as a student at Cambridge, playing off the dumb model joke, as though it’s unheard of that she’d pursue higher education. “I like learning,” she says. “I was going to do social and political science, then I switched to history of art, but I could have done either. I can get impassioned about politics, but I find studying it can lead to a boxy way of looking at the world, so I was put off studying it.”
Each article will explain that she has it all: the fashion life many dream of, the roles as an actress that many aspire to land, an enviable love, as well as a normal life as a friend, student, and daughter. “My family is important, and my close friends are important, and believing in love is important,” she says. “I haven’t got a lot of stability because I’m running around, but I’m seeking stability in relationships with friends, family and lovers. So in those ways I am quite conventional. And I want to get married and have children. That’s quite conventional. It’s human nature.”
So there you have it, the first of many profiles of the model turned actress. But in the meantime, one more thing to look forward to in the near future. Lily will be attending Fashion’s Night Out, so while she’s normally across the pond with the Brits, she’ll grace us for Longchamp’s party—and we can’t wait!
