Anita Bitton is the casting and creative director for the Establishment, a prominent casting and branding agency with a worldwide client base located in the heart of New York’s Soho. Anita has picked the faces for a number of the world’s great photographers, including Irving Penn, Miles Aldridge, Nathaniel Goldberg, and the late Richard Avedon to name but a few, as well as designers Alexander Wang, Viktor & Rolf, Hussein Chalayan, and DKNY. Her experience is tenfold and all have relied on her eye. Girl Crush gives us an insight into her latest love…
Location: Born in Brazil, but lives in London
Stats: Multicolored hair—often shaved; 5′5″
Alice Dellal is contagious. She opens her mouth and—at only 5’5—she turns into Galactus. Her raucous laughter and uneasy ease will keep you guessing. She has an uncanny acceptance of all and everything, and a beauty that you just can’t put your finger on. Alice has defied the concept of what is acceptable in the fashion industry. She has logged column inches for all the right and wrong behavior, but remains unspoken yet outspoken: “I get to work with people who appreciate me for my imperfections,” (i-D, March 2009).
In March 2009, she appeared on the special collector’s issue for i-D, the underground bible to cool, the self-proclaimed “most pretentious magazine in the world.” Alice, in their opinion, is an icon; I would be inclined to agree. Alongside Kate Moss, Daisy Lowe, and Yasmin Le Bon, the only difference is a few inches in height, a few years in age, and an undercut that none of the others have been able to pull off. There’s nothing wrong with that.
She navigates the perils of young London, Brazil (her native home), and most recently New York. She’s effortless, her style tips are watched and copied, she has been the face of the High Street brand, Mango, and mused the musings of fashion designer friends Alexander Wang and Henry Holland.
A former student of Beadles, a conventional English boarding school (past students have included Lily Allen and Daniel Day-Lewis), Alice has fast and quick moved up through the ranks. After she was shot by famed photographer Mario Testino for Vogue Paris, among others, she went on to assist him on a number of shoots. From Hampshire Boarding School to the school of Hard Knocks, Alice will spend the summer touring metal festivals around Europe fueled by her passion for photography. Behind the lens, she’ll draw inspiration from the music that she loves and the crowds that she is so clearly at ease with.
Model, photographer, muse, and a recent collaborator with jeweler Dominic Jones, she is fast becoming a girl for all seasons. With Alice comes a very shy and generous spirit, an old-world confidence that will catch you unawares. She’s an ingenue to the New World, but don’t blink, because right now she’s busy painting it.
