Healthy Juicing Tips From Longtime Ralph Lauren Model Valentina Zelyaeva

Since svelte celebrities and wise health gurus first boasted the benefits of organic fruit and veggie juices, we’ll admit to being both intrigued and intimidated by their cleansing powers.  Promising glowing skin, full-throttle energy, and balanced nutrition, these juice regimes seemed to be our answer to a long list of menacing ailments.  The question is though, where do you start? With so many different techniques claiming to be the best on the market, the challenge alone is sometimes just getting your foot in the door. We recently spoke with longtime Ralph Lauren muse Valentina Zelyaeva, who is not only a model-contributor to Organice Your Life, but also a master juicer! From expert strategies to key juicing ingredients, we got the inside scoop on the best way to try your hand at this beauty-boosting regimen!

How did you get involved with juicing and healthy living?
As a model, I have to always look my best. I find that the right nutrition keeps my skin beautiful, keeps me in good shape, and it gives me energy throughout the day. About 4 years ago, I discovered the beauty of a raw food diet. I became raw over night! I noticed a big difference in my complexion and over all feeling. I felt great, and people complimented me on my glowing skin. I started to juice everyday. Vegetable green juices are my every day beauty regime.

What do you feel are the best effects of juicing?
Freshly made juices made with organic ingredients are the fountain of youth! They contain essential vitamins and minerals that your body requires.

Do you keep up with your workout routine while juicing?
Sometimes I do 1-2 days of a juice cleanse. I drink freshly made juices and lots of water throughout the day. I don’t feel hungry or tired, so I keep my workout routine.

How do you switch back to regular eating after you’ve finished a cleanse?
After I’m done with a cleanse, I go back to eating very slowly. I start with a piece of fruit for breakfast, then I have a salad for lunch and dinner. The second day I eat as usual.

Do you have a favorite juice recipe and what are the ingredients?
My all time favorite juice is pineapple + 2 large cucumbers + fresh mint.

What is the significance of these ingredients?
Pineapple contains enzymes (good for digestion), cucumber is very hydrating, which is great for the skin, and mint is rich in vitamins A and C. Together those ingredients make a very refreshing summer time juice!

What combination do you find to be good for your skin and hair?
I include lots of greens in my juices, such as kale, spinach, wheatgrass, parsley, chard etc. Those ingredients are high in chlorophyll, which is highly alkalizing for your body. The more greens you eat, the better you feel and look!

Do you have any other tips for a healthy lifestyle?
I’m a big fan of green smoothies. Basically it’s a fruit smoothie with some blended greens (kale or spinach). I make smoothies in a blender. An easy smoothie recipe: 1 banana, 1 apple, 1-cup spinach, and 1-cup water. Of course, the combinations are endless. You can play around with different ingredients. I also like to add flax seeds or chia seeds for extra health benefits.

What are your favorite healthy spots to go to in NYC?
New York has lots of great healthy restaurants. I like One Lucky Duck, Liquiteria, Caravan Of Dreams, Angelica Kitchen, Integral Yoga and CandleCafé .
