On Tuesday night, 15th Street between 9th and 10th Avenue enjoyed an explosion of fashion revelers thanks to a duo of art parties: the celebration of Rankin’s Open at Milk Gallery followed by the annual Whitney Art Party at Highline Stages.
Always a supporter of the photographer’s talent, Heidi Klum made an appearance at Milk, dressed in a skimpy and sparkly Vivienne Westwood number. In a perfect situation of art meets reality, the artist and supermodel posed together for pictures in front of one of his photos of Heidi, specificially where she’s dripping in chocolate.
Afterwards, guests walked down the block to celebrate the Whitney Art Party: The Groundbreakers, and the museum’s brand new space in the Meatpacking District. The evening’s hosts, Eddie Borgo, Shala Monroque, and Amar’e Stoudemire, welcomed fashion insiders including Joan Smalls for an evening of art and bidding wars, along with Belvedere Vodka and Chandon cocktails.
Despite the evening’s silent auction focus and extensive art collection up for sale, Joan’s holding out on starting her collection, at least for the time being. “I think I’m staying away from it,” she said. “I first want to get the apartment first then start to [buy art.]” Just where is she planning to move? “Brooklyn! Williamsburg, Brooklyn Heights, somewhere close to the border. I like to see [the skyline.]“
