For those who don’t know, the Heart Truth is an awareness campaign created by the National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute designed to educate women on the risks of heart disease. The campaign has heralded the Red Dress as the national symbol of heart disease awareness since 2002, and Thursday night a slew of celebrities showed up to strut their stuff for the cause, each wearing a red dress made by a different designer.
Former model Kimora Lee Simons wore a strapless Kouture dress, Joan Collins wore a billowing Stephanie Rowland, but the real treat was watching Diet Coke heart health ambassador Heidi Klum storm the runway in a stunning Galliano gown to a soft remix of “Bad Romance.” The lively audience went wild as the supermodel did what she does best, blowing kisses all around and closing the show with a bang. So why is red such a favorite of Heidi’s? “I think red is a beautiful color—I think it’s powerful and strong. I think it’s sexy,” the Kluminator said. “Red is a color of love and it is a very bold statement color. You’re definitely not a gray quiet mouse—when you wear red, you definitely get noticed.”
Following the fashion spectacle, guests gathered at the New York Public Library for a reception sponsored by the zero calorie beverage. Heidi again charmed the crowd with a few words in front of a wall of roses, reemphasizing the importance of the cause she holds dear and topping the night off with big smiles and a lot of heart. ~ Tim Mitchell
