A sea of pregnant ladies converged uptown today at Destination Maternity to launch Heidi Klum’s new maternity lines, Lavish for A Pea in the Pod and Loved for Motherhood. The host and new mommy looked radiant as usual, in the highest of gray heels paired with an embellished blazer and skinny jeans. As she took in the scene, guests shopped her line—which took over the second floor of the store—while snacking on mini grilled cheese sandwiches and sushi (sans fish, of course). The theme for Heidi’s line is “trendy, hip, sexy. I think a lot of women have a hard time [dressing] when they’re pregnant because their bodies are changing,” she explained. Hence, Heidi to the rescue. She infused not only her design aesthetic and fashion preference into the looks—hello, sparkles!—but also her drawings, as those little flower designs were hand drawn by the supermodel. “I have an office in my house and I was thinking, What am I going to do? Because I tend to always do prints. I’ve already printed the next one that’s coming out. For the leopard print, we had to find one because that was a little hard for me to do. I tried to find my own idea so I started with little flowers. I’m at home, drawing drawing drawing.”
As she’s been known for wearing regular clothes during her pregnancies, Heidi wanted to give expecting mothers a chance to look fashionable, which means even if you’re not pregnant you can still wear her designs. “Why not!?” exclaimed Heidi. “I wear a lot of long tunic things that you could wear when you’re pregnant, which is what I did most of the time. I wanted to wear cool things that are trendy, so I tried to make trendy things—basic, but trendy and comfortable.” If that’s not convincing enough, this week 10 percent of sales from the lines will go toward Baby Buggy. So not only will you look fashionable while preggers, but you’ll be giving back as well.
