For the first time ever the Met Gala will be livestreamed for all of the world to see, and one of our favorite supermodels/foodies Elettra Wiedemann will be hosting the red carpet alongside fashion journalist, Billy Norwich.
We caught up with Elettra to hear about how she’s been preparing, what the red carpet is really like, and the first thing she’ll do once it’s all over - all the while trying to coax what she’ll be wearing out of her. It didn’t work, but a fitting in the Vogue closet certainly means it’s going to be epic!

Modelinia: First off, can you tell us what you’re wearing?!
Elettra: No I can’t - that’s all part of the fun and the big reveal!
Modelinia: Totally. So was it hard to choose or did you know the dress you wanted to wear the minute you saw it?
Elettra: It is tough to find the right thing to wear for the Met Gala…it’s such a major fashion event and everyone wants to look their best times a thousand. You have to think about everything from clothes, shoes, accessories, undergarments, hair, makeup, and make sure it all works together and that your total look comes across as sophisticated and elegant, but not predictable. Thankfully, since I am working with Vogue this year for the LiveStream, I was helped by them to find the right thing to wear and got do the fitting in the Vogue closet, which was such a great experience!
Modelinia: Wow! That’s amazing! So is this your first time hosting a red carpet? Have you gotten any pointers?
Elettra: Yes, this is my first time! I am quite nervous, but trying to prepare a lot in advance. I am hosting with Billy Norwich, who is very experienced in this arena, so I have been hanging out with him a lot and getting advice from him.
Modelinia: So you’ll be talking to all kinds of people on the red carpet. Do you have specific questions planned for anyone?
Elettra: Yes, we have specific questions for everyone, but I am not allowed to reveal anything about it, so you will have to just watch the LiveStream!
Modelinia: Oh, that we will! Is there anyone you’re nervous about seeing? Anyone that will make you star struck?
Elettra: I am excited to see everyone and especially to see what they’re wearing! I hope no one makes me star stuck; when I get nervous I either totally clam up or I start telling jokes, most of which are not that funny. [But I'm excited to see] really everyone. It’s such a fun night and everyone looks so amazing. Every year I have been, I have always taken a deep breath at one point and just looked around to take it all in. It’s really so magical!
Modelinia: We can only begin to imagine. What’s your favorite red carpet moment from Met Galas in the past?
Elettra: It’s hard to say. When you first arrive on the red carpet, it is really overwhelming. There are hundreds of people in front of the Met screaming and going nuts, and the paparazzi and photographers inside are SCREAMING the whole time. There are so many flashes that by the time you get to the top of the stairs you can’t see anything. Once you are inside and having a drink, you calm down a little and start to notice what everyone is wearing. Really everyone looks impeccable, so it’s just a real delight!
Modelinia: Ok, that sounds insane and definitely something to prep for. Which brings us to eating; you’ve got quite the palette, are you going to eat anything specific the day of?
Elettra: I am not sure, I have not thought about it at all! Monday is a very busy day so a lot will depend on time.
Modelinia: A busy day indeed! What’s the first thing you’ll do once it’s all over? Glass of champagne?
Elettra: Run into my fiance’s arms (he is coming this year) and then drinking a martini.
Modelinia: Correction. A “well-deserved” martini! Can’t wait to see you there!
