Milk Gallery was jam-packed last night as fashion insiders gathered for James Macari’s photography exhibition and book launch starring Paz de la Huerta. Each wall featured ethereal black-and-white photographs of Paz wearing nothing but a rosary that dangled from her neck. What sets his photography apart from others in his field is the intimate connection he creates between his lens and the model, which he claims he achieves by not giving his models any “BS.” After speaking with James, it’s not surprising that his models are so at ease around him—he’s as honest and friendly as can be.
Paz, along with Ellen von Unwerth and Eniko Mihalik, showed up to support the photographer as they’re both fans of James’ work. Eniko, who’s worked with James before, expressed her excitement about the fast-approaching Fashion Week. Though it’s too early to tell which runways she’ll be walking, she’s prepping with cardio and Pilates.
While Fashion Week is only a month away (eek!), satiate your fashion cravings until then by heading to Milk Gallery to see James’ photos in the flesh. And while you’re there, make sure to pick up a copy of his latest book, No.3, because his photographs are definitely ones that you’ll want to take home with you. ~ Sonia Evers
