If you’ve walked through Union Square recently on a late afternoon or early evening, you’ve undoubtedly noticed the intricate designs emblazoned on the sidewalk. Clearly Jen Kao’s a fan of Joe Mangrum’s talent, as she hired the artist to decorate her sandy runway in a sparkly, light teal design to accent her beachy and romantic collection. Though editors and guests had to precariously walk to their seats so as not to disturb the sand and hand-drawn art, the effect was well worth the effort. Once models took to the runway, it was clear to see Jen’s vision; just pair barefoot models with artistic sand designs, and her Spring 2011 creations came to life. A collection full of ivories, macrsme, and caspian blue served as a welcome return to the recently departed summer, and had editors and models alike dreaming of lazy days. Jessica White, who was clad in a long sleeved black mini dress, exclaimed, “I loved the first and second looks and want the whole collection, like right now!” ~Bianca Posterli
