J. Mendel produced a refreshingly sleek and simple collection yesterday at Lincoln Center. Architectural silhouettes with color-blocked vertical stripes initiated the collection worn by Ruby Aldridge, Alana Zimmer, and Arizona Muse who were soon followed by sexy cocktail and black-tie attire with racy slits, sequin detailings and peek-a-boo pops of color.
We caught up with Magdalena Frackowiak backstage, eager to hear her thoughts on the collection. “I like it [...] its classy and sexy,” she said, particularly enamored with her look - a perfectly tailored white jacket (worn as a dress) with a stripe of black along the front closure. Despite the chaotic backstage environment, Magdalena was calm and collected, chatting away with Anna Selezneva. “I just ignore it,” she said of the scene, “I’m fine! I’m just sitting here talking with my friend. It doesn’t bother me.” An impressive affirmation that could only come from a Fashion Week pro. Once all of Fashion Week is over Magdalena plans to take a week long vacation, with the location still to be determined. “If I had the power to go anywhere really quickly I would go to Thailand. But it’s so far and I don’t have the time,” she confessed of her ideal vacation spot. Who knows though, maybe an upcoming editorial shoot will bring her to her dream spot sooner than she thinks!
Karolina Kurkova, another Fashion Week star unaffected by the bustling backstage atmosphere, was her bubbly self, talking with press, models, and of course designer Giles Mendel. She closed the show in a breezy, sheer all white gown topped off with a white fur vest that had the camera happy audience snapping away.
A collection bound to fly off the racks, we can’t wait to see some of these pieces on Mendel’s elite following of fashion insiders and models.
