It’s official: Hedi Slimane has ushered in a new era at Saint Laurent Paris, and by the looks of it, it’s going to be as elegant as ever!
First off, lets talk models! After much speculation as to who Slimane’s premiere girl would be, we can confirm that Julia Nobis was today’s all-important show opener and closer— no doubt one of the most coveted spots of the season. As the ceiling closed in on the audience— no we’re not kidding— and the lights finally lit up the stage, Julia strutted out in a very slim pair of cigarette pants that were perfectly nipped at the ankle, a sharp looking blazer, and the collection’s standout piece, a wide-brimmed hat. This season, we also saw top models Hanne Gaby Odiele, Edie Campbell, Saskia de Brauw and Codie Young walking the runway with a host of fresh faces and yes, even supermodel Kristen McMenamy’s daughter Lily, who nabbed an exclusive with the brand!
As the collection progressed, it became clear that the new Saint Laurent had its eye on the 70s for Spring. With a lineup that paid homage to Stevie Nicks and 70s rock edge, the designer styled his girls to the T with billowy chiffon blouses, floor grazing dresses, tuxedo jackets, oversized belts, and even handkerchiefs. Dramatic detail was added in the form of feminine ruffles, large bows tied at the neck, or Victorian-styled lace paired with flowing capes, and slim-cut leather jackets. All together, the look was refined, chic, and as always, everything we want in our closet this season!
Now, as far as the front row goes, it looked as if every fashion A-lister made it to this one. Routine front row guest, Kate Moss, was joined by her husband Jamie Hince for the debut occasion, along with Saint Laurent’s long-time partner Pierre Berge and former muse Betty Catroux. One also couldn’t miss the overwhelming crowd of designers who stepped out for the show. Marc Jacobs, Alber Elbaz, Diane von Furstenberg, Riccardo Tisci and Alexander Wang were all spotted at the Grand Palais, making for one star-studded premiere!
