Happy to step out of the cold and into a blow-dryer filled room backstage at Altuzarra yesterday, we caught up with lead Fekkai hairstylist Paul Hanlon to get the scoop on the effortlessly chic hair displayed on models Liu Wen, Karmen Pedaru, Kasia Struss and Joan Smalls. “There’s a lot going on with the clothes in [Altuzarra's] collection, so I wanted to keep everything else very easy and simple,” Hanlon said. “I went with hair that felt a few days old — not exactly greasy, but loose and a little messy.” To emphasize his point, he grabbed Julia Stegner, sporting the slightly wavy ‘do and her signature boho-chic style. “I actually really like the hair, it feels like something I would wear normally,” Julia later told us. As for walking the show, it seems the runway is not her favorite thing. “I prefer to be in front of a camera; I get really nervous whenever I have to do something live.” A surprising bit of news since Julia’s walked everything from Victoria’s Secret scantily clad catwalk to Marchesa’s runway full of trip-worthy gowns. “It always takes a bit of convincing from my agents, but I’m happy to walk a show like Joseph [Altuzarra's]; it helps when I really like the collection.”
Indeed, this year’s CFDA winner Joseph Altuzarra, put out a luxurious yet wearable collection full of furry coats, military-inspired jackets and over-the-knee boots. The collection kicked off with his standard jet-black palette, but quickly transitioned into a colorful lineup of trousers, knee-grazing skirts, and architectural banjara-print dresses.
Altuzarra is an overall favorite when it comes to model’s personal wardrobes (Joan Smalls is one of his biggest fans), and we can already picture this collection filling the closets of models like Joan, Freja, and Karolina before it even hits stores.
