Ladylike: First Lady Fashions in Honor of the 2013 Inauguration

There is major buzz around the office over Michelle Obama’s head-turning look at today’s Inauguration.  Wearing a navy Thom Browne coat and dress, Reed Krakoff cardigan, J. Crew bejeweled belt and Cathy Waterman necklace, (and the best new bangs in town) Michelle has made it known that there is another fashionable Mrs. O that’s here to stay.  Also thanks to our very fabulous friend across the pond, Duchess Kate Middleton, there has been a wave of ladylike fashion hitting the streets, magazines and red carpets and we couldn’t be happier.  The days of Britney belly shirts are long gone!

From pencil skirts to cardigans, feminine silhouettes are back in full force and we can’t get enough.  Models like Miranda Kerr and Natalia Vodianova encapsulate this elegant style, while Karlie Kloss‘ new chop hair cut has us flashing back to Jackie O.  Designers Oscar de la Renta, Valentino, Victoria Beckham, Nina Ricci and L’Wren Scott embrace the female form and continue to produce timeless pieces for the contemporary chic woman.  While Jackie O paved the way with Chanel pink tweed, pill-box hats, and cat-eye shades, Michelle O has been bringing some of our favorite color-wow moments and form-fitting feminine fashions as of late.

Ladylike style is hardly a trend and more of a staple.   So dust off your pearls, and embrace your inner lady ‘O’ with our designer picks below:
