Maryna's Perfect Leather Jacket

Some models have handbags named after them, like the Stam by Marc Jacobs. In Maryna Linchuk’s case, an article of clothing was named for her and she helped design it.

After the CFDA/Vogue Fashion Fund awards dinner, David Neville and Marcus Wainwright of Rag & Bone fell in love with Maryna, their date for the evening. After chatting over dinner about her style of choice—leather jackets and leggings, which fits in so well with their design aesthetic—a model/designer love affair was formed.

Maryna grew up in Belarus, where her parents owned a leather-goods store, and she now has 15 leather coats in total. So really it was kind of perfect that she’d help the Rag & Bone boys design a new piece for their collection. After a deep study, Maryna planned her ideal jacket. “I wanted lots of details, like a slit in the elbow so that the sleeve won’t stretch out when you bend your arm,” she said. “And I wanted a strong shoulder, to give you attitude.”

The end result was a three-pocket biker style, priced at $1,325. “It’s really the perfect year-round jacket. It’s tight but it isn’t stiff, and the leather is so soft and thin,” she said. “It’s for fall, but you can wear it in the summer. Put it over a dress with flats and you’ll be ready to go.”
