Model in the City: Sydney

Lauren Hanawalt, our model blogger, is here to continue her Model in the City series. This time she’s off to Sydney.

Modeling, at times, lives up to its facade of glamour. You can wear amazing clothes, work with amazing designers, and be part of a beautiful vision. However, sometimes you can be asked to crawl on the ground like a cat or have a huge Afro with less than desirable makeup. And, yes, both of these events have happened to me.

Although I had some questionable shoots while I was in Sydney, there was one amazing job that I am very excited about: An editorial for Oyster, a magazine that I’ve always been a fan of. Luckily I did not have an Afro and I was not wearing an awful outfit. I was wearing some of my favorite designers—Rick Owens, Yohji Yamamoto—and discovered a few Australian-based designers as well. Although I was shivering and most likely turning blue at one point during the shoot due to the cold water I was submerged in, it was a great day. Yes, I have to admit, I run into mediocre more often than not, but shoots like these definitely make up for it.
