New York may have been plagued with the season’s first snowstorm last night, but thankfully, the city had a few Angels in town to lift its spirits! With their extravagant wings and heavenly beauty on display, this year’s Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show cast took over the Lexington Avenue 69th Regiment Armory to stage yet another electrifying runway show!
To kick off the sexiest day of the year, we spent the morning backstage where we caught up with some of this year’s biggest models including, Adriana Lima, Behati Prinsloo and Karlie Kloss. As crowds of reporters and TV crews worked the back room, the models were caught posing for the cameras in their pink satin VS robes, and in Miranda Kerr’s case, even slipping the press a sneak peak of her black lace lingerie.
While hair stylist Orlando Pita and makeup artist Tom Pecheux put the finishing touches on the pretty ladies, we made our way to the front of the house where we were greeted by a silver, glittery runway stretching out from underneath the illuminated Victoria’s Secret banner. Scanning the room, we spotted Ruby Aldridge and Poppy Delevingne getting ready to cheer their sisters on from the front row, while Alexander Wang, Alexa Chung and Harley Viera-Newton took their seats close by.
As the lights dimmed and the crowd fell silent, a crew of classic circus performers came to life on stage, setting off a spectacular performance that included acrobats, contortionists and stilt walkers. The audience, heavily anticipating the first Angel appearance, cheered as the runway playlist kicked in and Adriana Lima made her grand entrance in a Swarovski-adorned red satin ringleader gown just eight-weeks after giving birth to her second child! Karlie Kloss followed not too long after, sporting a pair of custom painted target wings that spun around like a hypnotist’s dial, as well as some thigh-high latex stockings. Erin Heatherton literally lit up the stage in her light up “circus” sign wings, followed by Izabel Goulart in a Swarovski Elements snake charmer body piece and Liu Wen in head-to-toe tattoo jewelry. Joan Smalls closed the first segment by strutting the catwalk in a custom tiger print jacket and flame hoop wings!
As the elegant Dangerous Liaisons segment began, Rihanna hit the stage to perform “Diamonds” just as Lais Ribeiro appeared on the runway in feather wings, followed by Lily Donaldson in a billowing yellow silk gown. Like Rihanna’s mega-hit, the Angels dazzled in their bejeweled satin and silk French courtesan-themed costumes. Doutzen Kroes closed the seductive act by walking hand in hand with the singer in black feather wings and a cage corset. Ooh la la indeed!
After a quick costume change, the girls were back on stage for the Calendar Girls themed segment, this time walking to the beat of Bruno Mars’ dance-heavy track “Locked out of Heaven.” Hilary Rhoda made her VS runway debut in a flirty leprechaun-inspired costume, complete with shamrock wings and a top hat. Representing the month of June, Lindsay Ellingson joined Bruno and the band on stage in a pair of bridal veil heart wings, at which point she got the crowd going by tossing her floral bouquet into the audience. The most impressive moment though was when all-American Angel mama Lily Aldridge appeared in an American flag costume and surprised everyone with special firecracker wings that let our glitter when she posed at the end of the runway.
While the models headed backstage for yet another costume change, Justin Bieber made his grand entrance, sitting on stage with a guitarist for an acoustic performance of “As Long As You Love Me.” Just when the cheering crowd thought Justin had left the stage though, the singer suddenly reappeared, this time with the VS Pink girls for an upbeat pinball-themed segment. While singing and dancing to “Beauty and the Beat,” Justin had the chance to walk alongside Jessica Hart, who appeared in a molded bicycle corset with handlebar attachments, Shu Pei in a velour cat suit and Brit newcomer Cara Delevingne in a striped latex roller girl dress!
Things got soft and romantic for the Silver Screen Angels section, as Bruno Mars appeared on stage for the second time accompanied by a piano and violin set against a backdrop screening old movie reels. While Bruno belted out, “Young Girls,” American beauty Cameron Russell walked in the 10-year Swarovski anniversary beaded gown, followed by the heavenly Miranda Kerr who was all smiles as she strut in a pair of stunning jeweled white feather angel wings, rounding out the truly cinematic performance.
When it came time for the finale, Rihanna got the crowd going with her new song, “Phresh Out the Runway” for the extravagant “Angels in Bloom” segment. As we all expected, Alessandra Ambrosio stole the show in this year’s $2.5 million Floral Fantasy Bra that was topped off with a pair of over-the-top orchid wings and a fun leaf skirt. Adriana Lima got into performance then, stopping mid-way down the runway to bust a quick move with Rihanna in her rose petal costume. After Toni Garrn took her final steps on stage, the whole VS cast reappeared for one final time as glitter and balloons were released from above, rounding out another spectacular Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show! To celebrate, the models found time for a quick clothing change before heading out for the cast After Party where the models spent the night dancing away despite the cold weather.
Congrats on another amazing show Victoria’s Secret! We can’t wait to relive the magic when the show airs on December 4th on CBS (10pm ET)!
