Modelinia is barely one year old, but we’ve covered some serious ground. With lots of firsts and giant strides, we’ve been doing everything we can to make sure everyone knows our name. So much has happened and we know this is only the beginning, so we’ve compiled a list of our favorite moments to date. Did we leave anything out?
Campaign Buttons
We were still gearing up to launch while the presidential election of ‘08 was under way, and the fashion world was obsessed with all things political as well. For the Spring 2009 collections, Fashion Week had an election theme. We wanted to make sure the industry was ready for us, so we decided to take the opportunity to campaign for a few of our favorite girls like Jessica Stam, Agyness Deyn, Ali Stephens, Lily Cole, Hilary Rhoda, and Coco Rocha. Everyone seemed to love them, and even the girls took part in the fun: Agyness was seen wearing Jessica’s, Jessica was wearing Coco’s… It was the highest of accolades and the site wasn’t even running yet! They’re one of our favorite memories—and keepsakes—so much so that we’re still obsessing in 2009. Perhaps you came across them?
Launch
On February 6, 2009, all of our dreams came true. We launched during Fashion Week, and have worked hard ever since to get you the scoop on what models are doing backstage at shows and behind the scenes. Whether it’s campaign news, cover and editorial previews, demystifying rumors, making models’ style accessible to you—well, we’re doing everything we can to bring you deeper into the world of modeling and getting you the insider access you crave. We love reporting on our favorite girls, and we love that you love that!
Spiked Heel
Everyone has a hero, and ours is Heidi Klum. With countless titles on her résumé, the supermodel turned media mogul can literally add superhero to that list too. We cast her in the leading role in our series, “Spiked Heel,” where she plays the Kluminator and saves Fashion Week from Dr. Faux Pas death ray—obviously it was the role that Heidi was destined to play.
She’s a Genius
By now you’ve probably noticed our penchant for videos. Specifically videos with models as the subject. So you can imagine our excitement to film a music video to Jet’s song “She’s a Genius” starring none other than Coco Rocha. Not only did it show just another typical day in the life of a model, but it also was broadcast in taxi’s all over New York City during Fashion Week Spring 2010 ! It was a huge success for us, and something that had all the fashion world abuzz.
Livestream
We’re constantly toying with new technology, trying to make our site more efficient and user-friendly. But when we started talking about how we’d cover Heidi Klum’s annual Halloween party we knew just photos weren’t going to cut it. Since the event takes place in L.A. we decided the best thing we could do would be to livestream from the red carpet so that everyone could feel like they were going to Heidi’s, too. Set up on our homepage as well as our Facebook page, the world was able to see just who showed up to party with Heidi. It was such a huge success that we livestreamed again in November for the taping of the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show.
